NEED HELP! Can't tell what's wrong with my Galaxy S3!!

Let me start with some details about the phone:

- It's a Sprint Samsung Galay S3, SPH-L710
- It was rooted and Cyanogenmod was installed successfully, no problems
- Phone was given to my aunt, and she used it for a while

Here's the problem:

A little while ago, she told me the phone turned off and wouldn't turn off again. I told her to charge the phone and see if that helped. She charged the phone and waited for the battery animation to show up full, and then turn on the phone. It booted past the Galaxy S3 logo, past the animated purple Samsung logo, got halfway through the Sprint 4G LTE boot animation with the music and then boom. Shut off. And then back to the battery charging screen but displayed the battery as if it was only 15% remaining. What?? Wasn't it full a minute ago???

Here's what I did to fix it:

Okay so I thought, it's a battery problem. I purchased a second battery from eBay (not OEM) and the same issue occured. Same exact thing happened. I looked up the issue online and it appeared to be a soft brick. I forgot exactly what I did but I downloaded a recovery file and flashed it via ODIN and it turned on. Phew.

I gave the phone back to my aunt and a week later, the same thing happened. Phone dead. Won't start. Won't get past the Sprint boot animation. So I thought to myself, hmm ok. I'll just reflash and do what I did before. But I mean, how often do I have to keep doing this? And she loses data every time I have to flash the phone.

And so I did. I put it into download mode, opened ODIN, browsed for the md5 file (I forgot what file it was, I'm mad at myself for that now) and flashed the phone. It flashed successfully but this time, the phone wouldn't turn on. It kept vibrating as if it's about to turn on but then dies immediately. I left the phone on my desk for a while and all I could hear was *bzzt* [pause] *bzzt* [pause] *bzzt* and I'm thinking, okay. Time to get an OEM battery.

I finally found an original Samsung battery from an authorized Samsung dealer, I was pretty surprised he still had the battery in stock and bought it from him and ran home. Still the same thing. Kept buzzing but won't turn on. And if I do turn it on, it won't get past the Sprint boot animation.

Long story short, I followed the instructions, flashed successfully with no errors, and now I can boot past the Galaxy logo, boot past the Samsung logo, and finally past the Sprint boot animation until I landed on the Samsung screen. Just a black screen with Samsung that seemed to have a glowing purple around it. I was getting excited. After about 10 seconds, it went to the main welcome screen (the Google setup thing) with the next button and the language selector in the bottom. I was on that screen for about 2 seconds AND THE PHONE TURNED OFF. Back to the battery screen.

What am I doing wrong? Is there something wrong with the phone? Battery? Am I flashing the wrong software? If so, can someone please direct me to the right place?

P.S. If you're thinking, "dude just get her a new phone" she does have a new one now. It's a Galaxy S7 but I really really want to know what's wrong with this phone and it's been annoying me lol

Troubles with US Cellular S6 Edge

I've been doing my share of reading and have come to many dead ends. Here are my troubles with my recently acquired second hand US Cellular Galaxy S6 Edge:

-Bootloader: I've looked in many websites trying to find a way in which I may check the status of my bootloader. I don't know whether it's locked or not and would like to have it unlocked if possible (OFW 6.0.1)

-Unlocking bootloader: just to be sure I was unlocked I tried using Crom services to unlock my bootloader (the apk) but it crashes before opening. I also tried to find the app in the Samsung App Store but it just won't show up.

-Flashing firmware and downgrading: I haven't found any concrete information as to whether it's possible to flash firmwares from other carriers and or downgrade to a lower android version (marshmallow to lollipop) and if so what the requirements are.

I would appreciate any input on these topics. Thanks a bunch! :highfive:

Can't get PIA VPN working on CM12.1?

I have just exhausted PIA's tech support and still neither the PIA vpn client nor openvpn seem to work properly on my i9100. They both install just fine, and seem to connect, but I check and my IP address is the same as it was before, and then I go to the PIA site and it confirms that I am "not protected". I have tried different ports and checking a variety of settings (hopefully not all of them) and nothing so far.

Is anyone else using PIA on the i9100 with CM12.1? If yes were you able to get PIA up and running first time or was there something you had to do?

Anyone else that has thoughts about how to get this going would *really* be appreciated!

Soft brick or hard brick?? /cache mount issues on N7 (2012 grouper, 32gb)

Hey all,

First post here on XDA and I'm hoping someone with more experience than me will be able to give me a hand! Until last week or so, I was running an up-to-date version of Lollipop (5.1.1), when my tablet started randomly freezing up on me, requiring "soft resets" to get it going again, or simply shutting off on me. Thinking it was software related, I tried wiping the cache with no success, so ended up doing a full factory reset. The issues *seemed* to clear up for a day or so, but came back, and so figuring it was Lollipop related, I wiped out the OS and installed CM12.1 (which was my first experience working with ADB and fastboot, and first time installing a non-stock ROM) with a TWRP recovery. A few days later, the freezing and shutting down issues began popping up again, with the shutdowns *usually* happening during sleep, but the freezing happening at anytime from initial "Google" logo to boot animation, to the middle of running an app. I had made a backup on TWRP when I got CM12.1 configured the way I wanted it, so I performed a soft reset when it froze on me, and booted into the bootloader. The tab kept freezing in the TWRP window before I could select a restore, so out of desperation I tried just doing a factory reset from within TWRP. Long story short, something must have happened during that reset, because it kept hanging on the boot screen. I thought I may have unknowingly messed something up, so I tried downloading and flashing a stock KitKat (4.4) ROM from Google's site, but kept encountering bootloader errors during the flashing and ended up only being able to boot to the bootloader screen (apparently got a faulty 4.3 bootloader in that ROM, which gave me a headache until I was able to get straightened out). I have been able to get a stock bootloader (4.23) up and running now, along with a stock recovery (going with Lollipop now, so stock for LMY47V) going, but that's it. I've tried flashing the stock lollipop image via shell script (I'm running a Fedora 23 machine), via individual commands, and via "fastboot update -w factory_image.zip" without success. ADB sideload still works via recovery, but I wasn't able to sideload the OTA packages for 5.1 either. The common errors that pop up seem to indicate an error (corruption? fragmentation?) on the cache partition, but I'm not a dev when it comes to Android, so I'm at a loss here... I keep getting "E: failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)", and other errors associated with accessing/opening files further down the /cache tree. Would this error be more likely to be a hardware issue, or would it be a software/firmware issue? I've had similar errors before with USB drives, when they would start to bad and partitions begin failing, but have always been able to rebuild them and get my data back. If something like this is happening on my N7 and the cache partition has indeed become somehow corrupted and failed (but not physically....), is it possible at all to rebuild partitions on Android in a similar manner? I've scoured the web, but haven't been able to find anything that can help me out with something like that, so I figured my best bet before condemning the N7 to the junk drawer was to see if any of the pros around here had any words of wisdom that *might* get me back up and running. Thoughts and advice much appreciated!!

Galaxy S6 - NO NETWORK, No IMEI no baseband NO EFS Backup

On my Samsung Galaxy S6 which was Vodafone before, on 6.0.1 I flashed twrp everything was working perfect fine apart from this time I forgot to backup my efs so now i have an unknown baseband and also an unknown IMEI, on the notification bar there is a prohibited symbol, like a constant silent mode, I was wondering is there any way either somebody can send me there backup, or any way I can get my phone back in to working order?

Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) Stuck at Asus logo screen. Cannot enter fastboot menu.

As mentioned in the title of the thread, my Zenfone 2 is stuck at the Asus logo screen. I tried installing an OTA update with the phone being rooted.
To solve this initial problem, i flashed Temp CWM with the help of my computer. I successfully got to the recovery menu and attempted to wipe all of the phone's data. I don't know if it did or not, because it got stuck on this process for 10 minutes, apparently not doing anything. So I did something that may have completely f****d the phone. I restarted it during the 'wipe'.
So here came the second problem: I cannot access the Fastboot screen anymore, therefore I cannot flash anything, and it still won't open. :crying:
Desperately, I even tried using the Asus Flash Tool to flash its original firmware, while at the logo screen. It won't move.
So, in case someone actually knows how to solve this, or there's someone with the same problem of mine alongside which I can mourn my dead phone, I'll leave this thread here. I also have an additional question: is the warranty valid in this situation?

ok so ive been away from the andriod thing girlfriend got me a samsung gear fit 2

i need lots of help as i figured i would, not wanting to be mean to her, told her i loved it however everything i have now is switched to ios. so went bought a cheap andriod phone a zte maven with 5.1 on it installed gear will not sync up with phone im trying to get it to synce up that way i can add apps to it and it can record stuff on my phone and the last andriod i worked with or broke was a galazy 3 thats how long ive been out of the game. i have pictures to include showing you what i have to work with any help would be completely awesome to get this working that i can add apps and have it record stuff on phone i bought thanks..:confused:

Will Marshmallow lock the bootloader on my T-Mobile S5?

Sorry if these are dumb questions... I have searched unsuccessfully for answers here and I am new to the forums and to Android... not sure where to ask this...

I just bought a new (unsold stock) T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T) phone and activated it on the T-Mobile network. The phone came with G900TUVU1ANE6 (4.4.2) from the factory. After only a few hours of operation T-Mobile has pushed an unnamed update to the phone which I assume is G900TUVU1GPE1 (6.0.1) Marshmallow. I have postponed installation of the update but don't know how long I can postpone it or if I can prevent its installation.

Will installing Marshmallow cause my S5's bootloader to become locked? I ask because I found this on Wikipedia (link not allowed) "As of Marshmallow, the Android Compatibility Definition Document contains new security mandates for devices, dictating that those that are capable of accessing encrypted data without affecting performance must enable Secure boot and device encryption by default".

Or is my G900T's bootloader already locked? I ask because I found this at root my galaxy dot net (link not allowed) "If your device's bootloader is locked then you will get the update via OTA. [...] If your device is rooted or bootloader is unlocked then you have to manually Flash / Install Official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Firmware On T-Mobile Galaxy S5 using Odin Flash tool".

The second question worries me more. I bought a T-Mobile S5 because so many sources claim the G900T bootloaders are unlocked. Now I'm unsure. Is there an easy way to determine if my bootloader is locked or unlocked? (I have Heimdall available on a Linux laptop but no windows machine).

I hope to install CM10 or CM13 on my S5. Thanks in advance for any definite information or guidance anyone can provide.

Xposed and device admins

Hello
I was trying to replace a method in a device admin package, I used XposedBridge.log("Loaded package: " + loadPackageParam.packageName); at the start of the handleLoadPackage to log it, but it was never called with the device admin package. It is called with other packages but not with that package. I don't know what I am missing here.
the module is enabled in the xposed modules.

Help with Custom Binary Blocked by FRP lock

How do i repair this custom binary blocked FRP lock?

It started when i tried to install the lucky patcher app, i accidentally turned off my OEM debugging(i think) after i rooted my phone. I think it would not be necessary for me to turn it on since i have already rooted my phone. Then after i installed the lucky patcher it say that something about booting the device then the Custom Binary Blocked by FRP lock showed up and got stuck in prompt message for samsung s6 edge+

i tried to use the root again my phone but end up stuck agian, which apparently did nothing and might trip the system of my phone. I search tons of solutions on the internet, but mostly is to flash my ROM in odin. I have downloaded the files for the firmware which is 1.8gb, and ofcourse followed the procedure to plug my device and use AP(my firmware that i just downloaded)

ASUS Zenfone 2 is stuck on factory resetting!

My phone (not rooted) factory resets between 12-24 hours (according to others). But my phone has been "erasing" for more than 28 hours??!? Unbelievable. It is still stuck on "erasing". :crying:

Hard bricked. Won't charge, PC doesn't recognize

Hard bricked. Found my phone in my car. It's been through the cold and hot weather. It's an old phone, but I would like to revive it.

Won't turn on. Can't charge. I tried a new battery..same applies.

Also, PC and Odin does not recognize it. Any help?

Phone was rooted with AllianceRom. No signs of wear/leaking on the battery. Was working perfectly before I abandoned it...:(

4g or LTE???????

Hi,well,my question is this:

I've flashed my Xperia X with the .277 firmware in order to root,so i picked up a generic one,to be more specific i have this on my phone right now: F5121_Customized GEL_1302-6571_34.0.A.1.277_R5A

i did'nt noticed it,but now the signal shows LTE,when i had the previous firm it showed 4G,also when i make a phone call the signal changes to H+ or 3G.

So which one is the best? i've searched but i'm still confused,and,yes my operator supports 4G and LTE aswell.

[F31xx][Video Guide] How to root your Xperia XA (as noob friendly as possible :) )

Hi all

As requested I make a "how to" video to be more noob friendly, the video is probably not perfect and my English too but I do my best to be understandable to all :)


PLEASE READ
I'm not a dev and I have no responsability if you flash my files.
As said in the video you must wipe "userdata" partition when flashing IF your phone memory IS crypted or if you don't know the uncrypt password, someone on the web speak of "default password" but what is it ?? If cryped (with no password) you can't backup /data and can't mount internal memory in TWRP. You can manually enable encryption and be able to set YOUR OWN password, but you can't revert back. And in theory you can make full nandroid backup and mount /data partition when in TWRP but can't mount inernal memory.
Regarding mounting /system rw in TWRP, seen on other tuto, you must never "swipe to allow modification" when prompted, after installing root package /system is mounted rw with no problem (look at "mount" menu).
IF YOU UPDATE OR FLASH STOCK BOOT and power on the device to Android, it will encrypt again the internal memory and if you shutdown the device before the end (xperia screen for hours) it will corrupt your data, not the SD card).
For futur, if you want to update, ask me and will release modified boot. I don't know what it does if you update stock after setting password encryption :/

Before continue, you must understand that unlocking your BootLoader will void your warranty, break your device DRM and lose X-Reality and image optimisation on low light when taking pictures (seen some workaround but not for XA).
You can't re-lock your phone and it will not restore DRM.
If you have confidentials files in your phone don't unlock your bootloader, as long as your phone is locked your data are officially secured.
This will be repeated when following Sony step by step guide. YOU ARE AWARE !

To verify bootloader lock state after unlock, on phone dialer:
*#*#7378423#*#* ---> Service info ---> Configuration ---> Check for "Bootloader unlocked: Yes" IT MUST BE YES !!!

By rooting your phone you will be able to install/uninstall system apps, install Xposed framework (Gravity Box, Dark Pokemon Go,...) or Viper4Android for an awesome sound! You can tweak and mod your phone deeper (battery,CPU,...), build and flash custom ROMs and many other things :D
If you have problems or want to unroot you can flash stock firmware like in the video with Flashtool, no need to wipe userdata.

Please watch my video one time before begin, to understand what you have to do.

BY FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE YOUR PHONE WILL PERFORM A FACTORY RESET WHEN UNLOCKING BL ( it will not format SD card) , MAKE BACKUPS !

Tested on my device F3112 and reported as working on F3116, other models may work as well if you do ALL steps. Will confirm after positive feedbacks.

Android stereo update, need help, don't know what firmware I need

Hi everyone, I got a stereo from eBay last year and it's currently on 4.4.2 and it just looks out of date, wanted to update it to the stereo that was in the description on eBay, I believe that one is just more up to date, I have the info I got from my head unit, any help would be much appreciated.

Any direction where to get the right firmware would be greatly appreciated

Android dump image file with no extension

Hi. I am completely layman with programming, and I am struggling with recovering smart phone data.
I tried to extract dump file using Oxygen forensic suite, but what i got is 'mmcblk0' 29GB file with no extension
and Oxygen Forensic result gave me anything which i wanted to recover DCIM contents.
I don't know how to use it or amout virtual disk.
Is that file useless? can i add extension? or use somehow?

Stuck on "erasing", took longer than 24 hours and still stuck.

(NOTE: My phone is not rooted)

My ASUS Zenfone 2 is stuck at the "erasing" screen. When I started the factory reset, it went to the "erasing" screen. After reading other threads, I thought it was normal to format between 12-24 hrs. It has been about 28 hours, with my phone plugged in while formatting, and it is still stuck...

All methods, including hard reset and recovery mode took me back to the same screen, and still stuck. Can anyone help me? :crying:

[Help] fastboot error "Loading keystore failed status 5 [600] USB init ept @0x8f2270"

ok so i have a device, LG spirit H440n.
and i cant get it work.
if im trying to get into download mode, make a factory reset through the stock "recovery" mode or to boot normally i get this:

boot certification verify
Secure bootung Error!
Cause: boot certification verify.

i just cant do anything.
but i can enter fastboot mode. but when i enter i get the following:

from there i cannot apply fastboot comands. if ill send "fastboot devices" i can see the device attached.

and if im trying to flash somthing i get an error "failed remote unknown command".
any solution?

Can only boot into TWRP after SuperSU Update

Hey Team, was hoping I could get some assistance. I updated SuperSU (was prompted to) and now I can only boot the phone into TWRP. If I tell TWRP to reboot system it still only boots into TWRP. I think this is probably something simple, but I don't have a clue.

OPO Not Charging and Battery Stuck at 50% After Water Damage

Just a few hours before I had proclaimed how great my One is and how I have not had any problems with it, I entered a swimming pool with my OPO in my pocket. I immediately went and bought some rice. I wasn't able to open the back completely because I didn't have the tools to remove the SIM tray.

After a few days, I tried booting it and it showed a message that the battery was too low (pic) and then it would keep rebooting itself.

I thought that the battery was messed up, so I replaced it. Now it turns out that everything works perfectly fine (screen, speakers, camera), but the new battery (and maybe even the old one) does not seem to be charging. What's even more weird is that it will only show me that it is charged 50%.

The phone seems to recognize that it is connected to a power outlet. When turned off, I can click the Power-button once and see that it is "charging" and at 50%. When turned on, it does not appear anywhere that it is charging. No notification light, nothing on the status bar, and "50% - Not charging" in Settings>Battery (when plugged in) and "50% - approx. 12 hours" (when not plugged in). Also, in Settings>Battery>Battery optimization it says that "battery optimization not available" for Google Play Services.

I have obviously plugged the battery connector back in when I replaced the battery, but I don't know if I need to replace the Micro USB Port or not. It seems like it is recognizing when it is plugged in, but it's simply not charging.

What do you think I should do? Thank you!

Moto X Root Question

Hello, I have a question about rooting my Moto X v5.1 (build LPAS23.12-39.7-1). See, it was bought from Verizon, but it is unlocked, so I switched to T-Mobile, not sure if i'm suppose to follow the root tutorial for Verizon models still. I entered the recovery mode and saw that the bootloader is indeed locked. Sorry i'm really new at this and pretty confused, if you need any more info about my phone please ask and I will provide. Also, if you have a tutorial link that would be great as well, seen too many that have different steps than each other and don't want to brick my device. Thanks a lot!

Cannot boot to bootloader mode

Hello guys. I really need soem help on this. After trying a whole day and looking at plenty of sources (heck even other phone forums), I've failed to unlock my bootloader. I've tried running the command

Android Auto USB connection problem ?

Is there anyone success in connecting this phone to a car using "Android Auto" ? I try many roms in the kenzo development section but none of them makes the phone being detected by the car through USB. I had another Mi Note Pro on the CM13 rom and the phone is connected to the car through USB cable.

Ported AT&T from Cricket (AT&T), nxtgenphone APN gives no data?????

So I jumped on the AT&T/DirecTV Unlimited data deal and ported my phone today. It all looked normal and I got the activation texts and such - it even populated the nxtgenphone APN info (though it was deselected and I had to select it). Anyway, I've had no data at all. As a test, I switched the APN to phone and data works, but the speeds appear to be much lower than what my wife's iPhone is seeing on the nxtgenphone APN. Anyone got any tips?
I'm running Viper 2.5, latest US unlocked firmware and US unlocked selected as carrier, and it works fine on AT&T other than this......only other thing I can mention is when I select preferred band or whatever it shows WCDMA/GSM and if I change it to WCDMA/GSM/LTE it reverts back for some reason. Any help much appreciated. I've called AT&T and they're like, uh, we don't sell the HTC 10 so can't really help you... grrrrrr.....

[ROOT] Whatsapp Trick: How to enable some hidden feature

Hello everyone,
I am writing to share a few tricks that I have found to enable the following functions in Whatsapp:
- Video calls
- Group's invite links
- Two steps authentication in Whatsapp Web.
First of all you need the latest version of WhatsApp Beta (for example, I use the 2.16.213) and a root explorer.
You have to open the root explorer and edit the file com.whatsapp_preferences.xml inside /data/data/com.whatsapp.
You need to add the followings lines inside <map></map>:

Audio issue, please help

Hello to everybody, thanks for reading.
I will start with facts: on one hand, i have my desktop pc connected via hdmi to my tv, whose analog audio output is connected to my speakers. On the other hand, i also have a Chromecast 2 connected to the tv.
So in both cases, audio output is the same, BUT sounds different (and here's the issue).

For example, when i play anything (netflix, Spotify) through my computer, sound is fine, perfect. But when i do it via Chromecast through my android phone apps, sound is definitely worse: louder and a little bit distorted, like noisier.

I guess that the difference should be on Chromecast or phone audio driver (apparently working worse than pc drivers). But i don't even know if phone's audio is relevant here or not.

What do you think? What can i do? Thanks!

What can't FlashFire flash from Nexus 5X factory images?

I want to have a rooted stock Android Nexus 5X with stock recovery. I also want to keep my boot loader locked. But I've read that automatic OTA updates don't work on a rooted phone. Then I found out about FlashFire.

But I also read that FlashFire doesn't allow flashing of the radio and boot loader. Chainfire himself said "FlashFire can flash both bootloaders and modems on most Nexus devices. However, I would only flash the modem and not the bootloaders, to be on the safe side. Or, use the full size OTAs available from Google rather than the Fastboot package, and circumvent the issue (those flash both bootloader and modem if necessary, with less risk when doing the bootloaders)."

So I've got 2 questions:
1. Is it possible to flash everything, including the radio and boot loader on the 5X?
2. If the boot loader is flashable, what are the potential drawbacks of flashing it with Flashfire instead of fastboot?

Can someone please upload the stock version of the Kindle app?

I mistakenly deleted the stock Kindle reading app in the Amazon Fire. Now no other version works. I tried installing from the Play Store, but it closes immediately after opening. I tried also with older versions and the result is the same. Only thing left is to try to reinstall the stock version, to see if it works again. Can someone please upload the .apk? I'd appreciate it.

Question about a particular scenario - talk, data, and MMS at same time?

The group that I work with spends a lot of time on conference calls together, and lots of time sending group text messages to each other. We often need to be researching something on our phone at the same time.

We have one guy on Verizon and he won't get any texts until he hangs up his iPhone.

We have another guy on Sprint that will get individual texts during a phone call, but not group texts or picture texts on his iPhone.

I'm on AT&T with an HTC M8 and I'm able to do all three at the same time. So is another AT&T iPhone and a Galaxy S6 in the group.

I think this is a network issue, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone on AT&T confirm that this phone is able to send/receive group text messages while simultaneously using voice and data?

Where to find 64 GB 4G Tab S2?

Does anyone know which countries the 64 GB 4G version of the Tab S2 are sold in? I have looked all over, Amazon.com, uk, de, ebay and Google and have only been able to find it available at an import electronics place on Lake Constance in Germany.... and even though I was in Germany on an extended vacation they didn't allow in-store pickup, their web site would not accept an American credit card and they would not accept Paypal because it wasn't a German Paypal account.

Unable to Disable Reactivation Lock but can Login

I have a SM-G900V currently running stock PB1 unrooted and a locked bootloader. My s5 also has Cid with 15 so I am able to unlock. My end goal is to have mm rooted and unlocked bootloader with custom recovery. ;)

Now the issue,

The Reactivation Locked is enabled/checked in security settings with my account which I am able to log into both from a PC and while doing a full reset using ODIN or from stock recovery. During reset it makes me login to setup my phone and I do and move forward with setting up my phone. If I go into Settings/Security and turn off reactivation it asks me to login so I do. It says I'm logged in but the check is still there. It actually disappears then reappears right away.

I have done a dozen full on wipes/resets of both the internal and external SD card using odin but nothing seems to let me disable reactivation so that I can get to MM rooted and unlocked bootloader.

Anyone got any pointers? :)

Unresponsive Black Screen on Tablet and Phone! Help Please!

Okay, So I have a cubot x9 and a LG G Pad 7.0 LTE and I decided to root these devices and I was successful but after a while I can't remember what happened the devices just got a black screen. I thought maybe they were dead so I tried charging them and i got nothing no charging battery indcator or anything on both devices. No recently I pluged my LG G Pad into my computer and it did show the indicator for like a sec then it died again. I know on my Cubot I was able to install the original Software once but now it doesnt seem to be working. Any Idea what's going on or how to fix it?

Where to Start dissecting Stock ROM?

Hi, everyone. Been a linux sysadmin for 15 years, and have rooted and replaced ROMs on countless devices. I'd like to dissect a factory OTA update and build my own ROM (to share, of course!)

Now I have an Acer Liquid Z320 (Acer T012). There are NO ROMs out there for it. Nothing. However, I do have an update.zip factory update. The structure of this is pretty simple: a boot.img, several binary blobs, some configs and a few scripts.

So now my question: Where do I start?

Sprint S4 4.4.2 Super Noob help

I'm ok to admit, I'm an ultra noob to android roms/rooting/ etc. and am asking for any help.

I've taken a few days and been plowing through videos and threads beyond what I can now feel comfortable and/or comprehend.

My end goal is to get native Hotspot on my phone, so my son can use his Tab 4 for wifi access.

Where is fingerprint data stored?

I've run into an issue where my phone is now accepting anything on the fingerprint scanner as a valid fingerprint, and I'm unable to add new prints, or clear existing ones for some reason. I'm going to try to just delete the fingerprint data before I do a factory reset, but I don't know where it is actually kept on the phone, if anyone has any idea, it'd be appreciated.

Update: I ran logcat *:E and got this when trying to remove fingerprints

Notification pull down quick settings buttons keep resetting to default

I have a Samsung Galaxy s5 SM-900t that I rooted using Odin/TWRP. This is a minor issue but my quick setting buttons keep resetting to default for some reason and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. (wifi, location, sound, scrn rotation, bluetooth) is what it reverts back to no matter what I change them to.

**backup ta - restore not working on windows 10 {solved}

UNFORTUNATELY I unlocked my z3's bootloader on windows 10, (as I have only this pc available), till I took a backup my TA partition, all the things were going well.. it took the backup as it usually does.
after that when I tried to restore my backup of TA partition, the BackupTA ended on an error.. :confused:
I tried many things but nothing worked.. the only way remained to change my whole OS from windows 10 to windows 7. (as i finally concluded that BackupTA is no more fully compatible with windows 10).
I tried some tricks and finally did it with some googling.

steps i took:
1. installed VM Box
2. Installed VM box extention pack (needed to connect usb 2.0 devices, i.e my z3 to that virtual machine)
3. Installed whole windows 7 using a dvd to that virtual machine. ( youtube it.. it is easy )
4. Copied the BackupTA whole folder (including backups) and Flashtool drivers to a pen drive.
5. Connect the pen drive to my pc and then connect it with virtual machine ( you have to select within virtual machine- devices>usb>*pen drive name* )

6. Installed flashtool drivers. (selected fastboot, flashmode & xperia z3 drivers only)
7. Connected my z3 to virtual machine. ( you have to select within virtual machine- devices>usb>xperia z3 or d6653 )
8. Run BackupTA.bat and followed the instructions to restore backup.
10. :highfive: And restore was complete.

hope will be helpful for all windows 10 users.. who do want to restore their TA backup at 4.00 AM :silly::cool:

Best Roms For HTC One M8 at the Moment?

Hey guys, I have had my htc one m8 (international) for around a good year and a half now, and I just rooted the phone last week and I am very happy with it! I really want to try custom roms but I don't know which one to start with. I heard about roms like cyanogenmod, viperone, skydragon, and maximushd. Which roms do you guys recommend me to try first? Or are there other roms that you guys are using right now that you can give me your review on? Thanks!

Blu R1 HD on TMobile. nice phone for the price, but not receiving text messages.

this is a strange one. I'm able to send out messages through phone, but will not receive them. I have tested sending and receiving from 3 different phones and none I do not receive any. I tried setting up an alternate APN, but did not help at all.
any thoughts?

TWRP scripts: Ad removal - Debloat - Block OTA

Amazon Prime Variant and OEM Variant
Tested on Prime Variant 16GB, should work for other versions. Please report back if some packages are not removed

This guide only require you to be able to boot TWRP. You can follow this TWRP install guide and perform the installation of these .zip files AFTER step 8) (You must backup your system in case anything goes wrong, you will also need this backup to perform any future OTA, such as the one activating band 12). You can either stop there after installation, or proceed to the following steps if you want to have root access.

All .zip have to be installed using the TWRP "Install" function. You will need to download them on your phone or copy them on a SD card. You do not need to install all these packages at once. These scripts do not install anything, they only delete some files. You can extract them and open "update-binary" with your favorite text editor to see exactly what is done (always a good idea if you are concerned with your device security), and customize it if you wish.
This will only delete the apps in your system. If an update was performed, or if you used the app previously, the app and it's files may still be present on your device after running these scripts, but you can now uninstall them as any other app. This also means that you can rerun these scripts after a future OTA and this will not erase any app you reinstalled yourself.

Disable ads, block OTA and Amazon PARTIAL debloat "bluR1-Prime_AMZ-PARTIALdebloat-blockOTA.zip"

This package will remove all the ads from your Prime phone and block future OTA. You DO NOT need to reset / wipe your phone after installation.
It will also remove all Amazon apps from your system except for the Amazon Underground app store (recommended).
This option allows automatic background updates from the amazon app store and do not need you allow the installation of packages from unknown sources.

This package will remove SOME stock Mediatek apps. These stock are have an ugly icon and can be replaced by better alternatives from the Play store or other.

Remove the ugly Gallery app. Replace it by any other gallery app, Google Photos is actually pretty good.

s7 edge is having trouble with TMobile's LTE mobile data

So I recently purchased s7 edge g935fd from Taiwan. The phone was working fine there in Taiwan. When I came back to the States, however, the phone seems to have trouble connecting TMobile's LTE mobile data. The LTE goes on and off , no matter where I am. The phone still says that it is connected to LTE even when the data is not loading. I tried to reset the APN setting but no avail. I also tried that sim card on my old ASUS Zenphone 2 and the LTE worked fine so it is probably not the sim card's fault. The weird thing is that I can still call, text, and even use 3g network, it's only LTE that is not working properly. Anyone got a solution to this?

Can't import contacts to phone memory on Motorola X Pure

Hello,

Purchased a Moto X Pure recently and was able to get the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed. I found a custom ROM
on here that is identical to what was on the phone minus bloat. I am trying to restore my contacts from my storage card
but it won't give me the option to import to phone memory, just an email account. I have been able to import
to phone memory from my other android phones which is why I like this over Apple. Not sure if this is enough info
so let me know if not. Just looking to not have to put contacts onto a gmail account, I prefer not to sync. Thanks.

Quick Charge info app?

I know the nexus 6 is supposed to have the 9v quick charge feature, but I never seem to be able to tell if it's ever used it.
Currentwidget only give battery voltage and current, but doesn't mention anything about 5v or 9v charging.

Does anyone know of an app that will tell when the Qualcomm Quick Charge feature is in use?

Fire TV remote app and changing Wi-Fi

I'm on my way to the Outer Banks for a week at the beach. I have my fire stick but forgot my remote. I've checked stores to get a replacement remote or compatible bluetooth controller, but no luck. I have a possible solution, but not sure if it would work. Let me know what you think.

I setup the hotspot on my phone to mirror my home network. I already know I can fool my fire stick to think I'm online. Then I can use my wife's phone with the Fire TV remote app to pair with the Fire stick.

The problem comes with connecting with the Wi-Fi network when we'll be staying. It's password-protected. The remote app will only work as long as I'm connected to my phone's hotspot. Will the Fire stick stay connected long enough for me to enter the password, or will it disconnect the second I click the preferred network?

Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Is there any way to manually learn the network and password before connecting to it using adb? Anybody?

One M9 Prime CE - gap between screen and frame

Hello :)

I have my HTC One M9 Prime CE for a week. I think it was a good choice, but I noticed one disturbing issue - small gap between screen and frame. This is picture of it:

I hope it's clear enough.

There's not any other gaps. This one is very thin, but backlight is clearly visible between the edge of glass and metal frame (not visible if screen is even slightly pressed there). It's possible that dust particles will get between glass and display or will affect backlight? It would be annoying for me. I think that the whole display is bonded and it's not real problem, but I'm not sure.

Of course, my phone is under warranty, however I want to avoid repairs because of a lot of bad opinions.

i have a amazon fire 7 running amazon os 5.1.2(rooted) and tried to install xposed framework on it. when it rebooted to, what i assume complete the framework download. it just stays on the fire logo screen. would love any help as i dont want to go tinkering any more on it in case of data loss. thanks

S7Edge G9350 Qualcomm English HK Rom ROOTED TWRP 100% working

This is my first ever attempt at this so I cannot guarantee this will not damage your phone or destroy the housing market.

I bought this phone on a trip in China expecting to have a plentiful selection of roms on my return to Canada, only to be met with zero roms, and the only information on Chinese forums.

Having been inspired by the Aurora Rom, I decided to try and build something more compatible with North America

This is based off the latest Hong Kong (INT) firmware G9350ZHU2APG2

So far I have not learned how to properly build a standalone rom (flashable zip) so here is a 100% working guide for now. I will post the zip once I have figured that out

This was only tested on a Chinese G9350 Qualcomm S7Edge. Please don't attempt on any other model

1. Backup your phone!
2. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked!
3. If you already have TWRP, and are having problems mounting data, boot into recovery and Format Data. If you want TWRP first, flash the TAR G9350.TWRP.3.0-321.tar
4. Boot into download mode
5. Launch the modified Odin, it will be in Chinese *thanks to TieXue
6. Load all the corresponding files. (BL, CP, CSC, and the AP file G9350ZHU2APG2.mlkemac.tar) Only the AP is required, the rest is optional
7. Click the bottom left button to start the flashing process.
8. Reboot back into download mode
9. Flash the AP TAR (G9350.TWRP.SuperSU.2.71.tar) This will boot into recovery and flash root
10. You should now have a rooted, International speedy rom with working recovery
11. There is no extra bloatware in this rom, however I recommend using TiBu or Package disabler to remove the TouchWiz bloat.

• Modified Odin
• TWRP
• SuperSU Root
• TWRP Encryption disabler
• Odin AP/PDA Firmware file
• Odin BL
• Odin CP
• Odin CSC

Transferring (everything) to another moto g4 plus

Hello, I have a 32/2 GB Eu variant of the g4 plus. Much to my dismay it doesn't have the CDMA support for certain US networks. I'm giving mine to my mum here and getting a us 64/4 GB model, and would like to basically carbon copy this phone. I've rooted and optimised and modded and have tuned it with my governors and uninstalled all sorts of moto crap. My screen on time has gone from 4 h to ~5.5. Furthermore my Google play music is all cached. (Such a pain to redownload)
If possible I'd like to not have to set up everything again. I know titanium is good for apps, any recommendations for the rest?

[Request] Tasker Disable Bluetooth & The ballad of getting my car stereo to work

Hey everyone,

You may have seen my previous BT Issue and potential solution posted here a couple of days ago. The gist of it was:

On LL my phone would automatically reconnect after a couple of second, since the upgrade, something during the reconnect glitches. After exhausting many other options, I feel as though it is possible that the stereo reconnects "too early" in MM, causing some kind of BT error. I can turn off auto-reconnect on the stereo, and perhaps if I let MM handle it, it would be better. Anyway it seems like my STEREO is not reconnecting too early, but the PHONE is trying to connect to it too early. The stereo turns on so fast, I feel as though the phone didn't fully disconnect, causing some sort of glitch where I have to restart it. My car profile's exit task always runs successfully however Then I thought I had the perfect idea : I have a state profile (bluetooth connected to car stereo) with enter/exit tasks. My idea was to use the exit task, turn off BT, wait 5 seconds, and then turn it back on.

For some reason, I am having NO luck with this. It just simply doesn't turn off bluetooth. The icon does not disappear. The command is the first one before WiFi On. I attached a log, and lo and behold, the command is not even in there for some reason. HOWEVER, when I manually run it using the "play" button, it executes as expected.

Does anyone have any ideas? The basics would be to turn bluetooth off, and then back on as soon as the connection is lost. The problem is that it must execute quickly, before the stereo turns back on (Which takes a couple of seconds at most)

HERE is a picture of the exit tasks (Turning Bluetooth back ON is cut off, but it is the last one)

The log is below. The bolded parts are part of other profiles. As you can see in the log, it does not even acknowledge the existence of the BT off task. I have obviously deleted, re-created the task, even set an IF statement to turn BT off if %BLUE = on, but that still resulted in nothing
